Connecticut barefoot runners!
Anyone out there besides me? I swear barefoot running hasn't hit this state yet.
You know that is something I really should think about. I get questions all the time about my VFF''s and of course crazy looks when I run barefoot.
Hi! Does this make me barefoot runner #2? :)
Welcome, Jill!
Thank you! Great to be here! ;)
Hi, I'm new to the chapter.
I started barefoot running back in June, 2010. I've been running for about 20 years and just wanted to try something new. I got hooked after a couple weeks of barefooting. I transitioned slowly and I'm up to 4 miles barefoot. I still run in shoes just to keep my mileage up but it's getting tougher to run in shoes. I just switched to VFF's for the winter. Not as good as barefoot but will have to do till warmer weather. Last month, I ran a 5k in my VFF's and shaved 1 minute off my normal shod time. Next spring, I plan on running a 5k barefoot and see how I do.
I live in Suffield. Is anyone else from northern CT?
Mike
Welcome, Mike! Is that barefoot 4 miles total or 4 miles in one run?
Hi TJ,
My usual runs are for 9 miles of which 4 miles of the 9 are barefoot. My goal is to run the whole 9 barefoot but I'm adding the miles very slowly to avoid any injuries.
For the winter, I replaced my running shoes with Vibrams and I'm running about 6 miles in them. I ran about 2 miles barefoot today but the wet road was very cold so I put my Vibrams back on.
Mike
Thank you. Just was wondering.
I'm in Wallingford, CT... HI !

You, sir, are a pioneer! It's up to you then, if you want to take on the task. Would you like to become the Connecticut Chapter President? It really wouldn't have to take up much of your time. Just organize BFR group meetups at least once a month. Attend races in your area where you and your friend run barefoot or in VFFs. Encourage BFR divisions in those races/events. Hold meetings. Determine how you would like your chapter to operate, etc. There's might be a small start up fee, but you could possibly get that back from your members by charging them $2 - $5 a year to become one of your members. We're still working out the logistics, but if you are interested in taking this on, please write back here to let me know. Thanks, TJ.
P.S. Besides, with the new baby coming, I'm sure you'll have nothing but time on your hands.
