Welcome to The Georgia Chapter of The Barefoot Runners Society!
We have regular group runs, coaching sessions, race support groups, etc. The majority of our events are in the metro Atlanta area, but we have members from across the state.
Please join and become involved!

Hello Barefooters
Hello Barefooters!
My name is Bo Grist and I recently volunteered to play a more active role in the chapter by helping organize some events, stoke up the website chatter and generally celebrate being barefoot in Georgia.
Because Georgia is so vast and the membership is quite geographically dispersed, the online community can serve as a great place for us to share stories, ask questions and feel like we are part of something larger. I really encourage you all to participate both online and at the races/community meetups.
Pi Mile 5k - 4/14/2012

I am planning to enter this race. Are any other members interested? It would be great to have a group of barefooters at this event.
Huraches
Anyone know a place that sells good Huraches? I like the Luna sandals alot. I know NaturalStrides has a good selelction, but I would like to see some more before I committ.
Ouch
I know I am probably doing it all wrong, my feet are killing me. I stubbed the ball of my foot on uneven pavement Thursday night, I have only been running barefoot .5 mile at the end of my runs, wore my vff Saturday for a trail run. My left foot is swollen, and I am limping. On the up side I think the blisters are healed.
Gobble Jog 10K in Marietta on thanksgiving
My foot injury is much better now. I just signed up for this Gobble Jog 10K http://www.gobblejog.org/
Anybody else doing this?

First barefoot 5K
Well i just finished my first 5K. I ran the 9th annual autumn breeze 5K at Tallulah Gorge. It was an awesome course. Fairly flat and beautiful scenery. I was the only barefoot runner there and only saw one person wearing VFF's. I finished 3rd in my age category (25-29) with a 31:10. I dont know if thats a good time or not. I did get a prize for placing though. People were amazed that I was barefoot and was asked a ton of questions. Everyone was so nice and congratulated me. Ready to run another one next weekend.
Norcross Half Marathon and 5k
I have registered for a 5k in Norcross on 10/15. It would be cool to have some other barefoot runners if anyone is interested and can make it. Here is the link to the event:

Piedmont Park & Suwanee Towncenter Park Meetings This Week
Hello everyone,
After a little scouting out, I believe that I have found a great meeting spot for Piemont Park this Monday the 26th at 5:30PM. Please follow this link to Google Maps to see exactly where it is: http://g.co/maps/sehqt
The Piedmont Park meeting spot is directly on the park's recommended running loop which is exactly 1.68 miles long. After meeting here, the group can immediately start the run without having to walk any distance.
Meeting Places and Dates Decided
Hello everyone,
After giving a few days for everyone to vote on their preferred meeting place and time, these 3 places have been chosen in order of priority:
1) Piedmont Park
2) Suwanee Towncenter Park
3) Stone Mountain - TBD
Upcoming Meeting
Greetings everyone,
Recently I sent out an email to get a idea of where everyone was located. If you have not responded yet, please do. After some thought, I have decided on 3 locations for the next meeting:
1) Piedmont Park
2) Suwanee Towncenter Park
3) Stone Mountain
This will be done democratically, so whichever one gets favored the most will be used. Now that the locations have been established, it would help further if everyone voted on a day and time (morning, midday, evening, etc.):
1) Monday, September 26th
1st Barefoot Race
Hello everyone,
I have my first barefoot 5K on October 2nd. What kind of times should I expect being this is my first race? I want to win the whole thing but I'm trying to be realistic. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
Josh
Who wants a free race entry?
Hello Gang,
I'm a sponsor for a 5/10k here in Tucker, GA on October 1st.
I'll be manning my tent so I can't run, but I have two free entries to the first two barefooters that are interested.
Just so you know it is a peachtree qualifier.

Upcoming Meeting
Greetings Barefoot Runners of the Georgia Chapter,
Currently, the focus is to get a general idea of where everone is located so that a centralized meeting location can be set. Once this location is made, scheduling for future barefoot runs can be made. It would greatly help if everyone can email me, thomasleehayes@gmail.com, so that the best location can be set.
Thanks,

Duluth Fall Festival 5k
The 5k race that is part of the Duluth Fall Festival will be on Sunday, 9/25. Last year we had about 5 barefooters run it. It would be cool to increase that number.
You can get information about the race at www.duluthfallfestival.com.
Hope to see some of you there!
Gerry
