The Pennsylvania Chapter
of
The Barefoot Runners Society!
Dear Keystone Barefooters,
You may have heard I have taken over the Chapter presidency from Nate Wolfe (thank you, Nate, for your service which saw our chapter grow to 70 members!). If you want to know more about me and my husband who is also a barefooter, see the membership profile here http://barefootrunners.org/story/member-profile-week-michael-capmikee-cu....
I look forward to seeing new members join and facilitating meetups around the state. Look for a Facebook page soon. Our first meetup will be on May 1, 2011 for International Barefoot Running Day at the Broad Street Run in Philly. If you plan to be there, let me know.

Where are you?
Location
There have to be other barefoot and/or minimalist runners out here in the Western Suburbs of Philly (i.e. the main line.) Where are you? I am in Paoli and would love to meet other barefoot runners. I know now is not the best barefoot running weather, but it is a good opportunity to introduce yourself and try to make connections for when the weather does improve. In the mean time, I have been running with my Vibram FiveFingers and staying comfortable. See you out there!
New Barefoot Running Study at UD
Attention barefoot runners! The University of Delaware Running Laboratory would like to invite you to take part in an in-lab study to study the mechanics of barefoot running and altered footstrike patterns. To qualify for this opportunity you must be relatively healthy, between the ages of 18 and 50 and run more than 10 miles/week. You also must have been running barefoot or in minimalist footwear for more than 6 months, and at least 50% of your mileage must be done completely barefoot. Please contact Allison Altman at
PA/Philadelphia - Barefoot form skills workshop with POSE-certified coach Tracy Steven Peal
Barefoot/Minimalist Form Worksho 9/24 at 10AM - mark your calendars
I'm organizing a workshop with coach Tracy Steven Peal in the Philly area the week following the PDR/RNR Half Marathon. Date is Saturday, September 24th at 10AM - location TBD (taking suggestions).
Barefoot Running Clinic
Hi,
I am working on maybe pulling together a barefoot running clinic in Philly. I am looking at finding a POSE coach (because the only person who responded wanted a POSE method clinic). I'm in contact with one and maybe there is a possibility of getting one of the nearer BRS coaches to come hang out with us if I beg. Is there anyone here who is interested?

Clark Park Track Club (not BF but BF-friendly)
Hi folks,
I have a little running club in West Philly at Clark Park (43rd and Chester - we meet at the trolley shelter). We were meeting at 6pm, and have now moved the runs for the summer to 7:30 due to heat and schedules.
We are not BF-exclusive but we have a mix of BF, VFF, and shod runners. Kids, walkers, rollers all welcome. If you want more information, let me know.

Western PA BFers?
I live north of Pittsburgh. I have mostly been running around town, but would like to get into trail running. Are there any trail runners in the area? I'm thinking Moraine, McConnells mill or something else nearby.
Anyone? Anyone?
Huaraches?
Has anyone here in PA tried huaraches yet? I just ordered a kit from InvisibleShoe.com. I figured I would check them out for the fun of it. I figure my plantar fasciitis is going to go away eventually and I'll be back to minimalist shoes soon enough (I hope!)
Excitement Galore!
Since near to May 1st I've been running in fivefingers, and today for the first time I ran half a mile with nothing on at all (my feet!). What an incredible experience that was let me tell you!
The ground was damp yet warm and welcoming, and I could almost feel the mist rising from beneath my soft skin as I ran through it. The sense of connection I got blew me away (even though it was road running) and I couldn't help but smile the whole time. This is something I will definitely do at the end of every run from now on until I build us some callouses.
Looking for in person advice
Is there any experienced BFRer in the carlisle area that can perhaps have a look at my form and offer any advice? I typically run to and around the track around the army school's golf course.
May 15th Bar Association 5K Philly
I will be running this race. I am definitely not doing it barefoot. My water shoes might even offer precious little protection against the gnarliest chip and seal I know, but I thought I'd let folks know I'd be out there. It starts at the Art Museum and out and back on MLK Drive. http://www.charityrun2011.com/
It's fast and flat and a garden-variety Philly 5K charity race, though it's probably the least mega crowded of all of them. I pr'ed in the 5k distance here. This year I'll be running it with my daughter.
Is anyone doing the Charley Horse Half Marathon, May 29?

I'm planning to run it in my VFFs.
New club - Clark Park Track Club (West Philly) - not BF exclusive but BF friendly
Since I started the club, it will be barefoot friendly in case anyone wants to check it out.
We are "Clark Park Track Club" on Facebook (no website).
Run, roll or walk 1-4 miles around the perimeter of Clark Park (.5 miles). Free club for runners and other movers and shakers. No rules except you have to show up. And we're not picky about that.
PA/Broad Street Run - International Barefoot Running Day
Which Spring Half marathon to run around Philadelphia?
I was planning on running the half at the Delaware Marathon but when I went to register I realized that they are not taking registrations for the half anymore. And I cannot even imagine running a full mid-May. So I'm looking at other options. Does any of you have any experience or plans with the following:
- ODDyssey Half marathon (http://www.oddysseyhalfmarathon.com/) May 22nd
- Dirty German trail endurance fest 25k (or 50k, 50 miles)(http://www.uberendurancesports.com/Dirtygerman.html) May 22nd 2011
PA/King of Prussia - Valley Forge 5K Begin-agains Group Run
Philly BF Runner around?
I'm new to the site and BFR. I'm working out some of the kinks of breaking in my feet. I would like to find someone in my area CC Philly that has a flexible schedule to run with. Please reply if you are in CC or south philly particularly.
