Welcome to
The Iowa Chapter
of
The Barefoot Runners Society!
The Iowa Chapter of the Barefoot Runners Society seeks to promote and grow the Iowa barefoot running community through events, education, and barefoot running resources. This is a site for Iowa barefoot runners, those who run in minimalist shoes, and anyone who is interested in learning more about the sport.
We hope to provide members with:

IA/Des Moines - Des Moines Marathon/half/5k Iowa Chapter Meetup!
September group run?
What do you all think of September 10th or the 17th here in Des Moines again?
I would love to be able to travel to Iowa City for meetups but its not going to work for us to do that right now with our schedule.
I would love some input. I don't know if I will be running by then or not but I would love to meet up all the same and hope to stay longer this time.

Chocolaterie Stam 5K and 5-Mile Race Oct. 30th
Hey all,
I just signed up for a 5 mile race on Oct. 30th here in Des Moines. There's nothing special about the event as far as barefooters go, but the course does run the same route (roughly) as our last meet up at Mullets here in Des Moines.
This will be my first race as a barefooter. I did this one last year and hada good time. The race is limited to 1000 runners. Dogs and strollers are permitted (I will run with my German Shepherd Lambeau) and there is chocolate at the end.
Loved our meetup Saturday!!
Thank you all so much for coming and making a fantastic meetup yesterday!
I would love to hear your thoughts on the logistics. What do you think about the time and place? What dates work well for you? Any ideas for future meetups?
I thought that meeting at Mullets was great and the trail to Grays Lake and one loop around was a nice distance for everyone. Its also full of people, as we experienced, that we can inspire along the way. I am however up for other suggestions.
Stay tuned for another meetup in August!
Anyone in DM area up for a run?
Hey all,
I started barefooting back in April (I think) and have been slowly working my mileage up. I am now at 2.5 miles a day and will be soon hitting 3 miles a day. With that "milestone" coming up, I finally feel like I'm able to run long enough that I would not be holding anyone back in a group run so I thought I'd check in to see if anyone wants to get together for a run.
Contact Running Wild to carry more Minimalist Shoes
Everyone that shops at Running Wild needs to contact them to get them to carry more minimal shoes.
Shoe Sale at Jax Mercantile
My wife found out about this event in the Sun (an Ames local paper). Jax in Ames is having a shoe sale this coming Saturday (23 October) where you can buy one pair of shoes and you can get another pair of selected "sale shoes" for $1. I don't know how much minimlist shoewear they have exactly, but I do know that they have VFFs. I'm gonna get me a pair! Wahoo!
Running the Living History Farms Race
Greetings fellow barefoot running Iowans!
I've been really looking forward to Living History Farms Cross Country Race this year and I'm hoping to get together a team, or at least a group of barefooters to run with. I'm honestly not so sure about doing it barefoot because I've seen some gravel on the videos of it, but maybe I'll have some huaraches by race day.
Still, anyone up for doing it?
